There is an expedition session on the 24th to 25th
March known as the Bush Craft Weekend where students from ACS will go camping
and learn special bush crafting skills. This is a part of the Duke of Edinburgh
bronze award, which is a great youth programme to take part in, led by Ms.
Edwards.
Every Wednesdays there is an after school meeting for those who
are taking part in The Duke of Edinburgh bronze award. In those meetings we
discuss what to do and what to not do while we are bush crafting. We also learn
about reading maps, how to build a tent and what type of food is suitable to
bring.
This programme is helping us to improve our communication and leadership
skills as well. It also teaches us how to blend in more with the outside world
and our natural surroundings, how to survive in certain consequences and to keep
safe. The thing that everyone must make sure of when they are on an expedition
session is that they have to stay with their groups at all times.
There is also a practice expedition session on the 5th to
6th May where we will be meeting at Tring station in
Buckinghamshire. In that session we will be required to have learnt and
demonstrate good map reading skills.
The DofE is an excellent place to learn lots of new skills but
also learn to work with lots of other people.
